Position summary

What this role covers

Own the day-to-day safety and compliance function for the trucking department, covering driver qualification, DOT compliance, accident and incident response, and ongoing driver coaching. Works closely with the Trucking Department Manager to keep the fleet audit-ready and to build a culture where safety is part of daily operations, not an afterthought.

Responsibilities

Manage driver qualification files and ensure ongoing compliance with FMCSA requirements
Monitor and manage CSA scores; identify trends and address them proactively
Review daily DVIRs and follow up on any reported defects or out-of-service conditions
Audit ELD/digital logs for Hours of Service compliance and address violations
Lead accident and incident investigations; coordinate with insurance and claims as needed
Conduct new-hire safety orientation and ongoing driver training
Deliver coaching and remedial training to drivers based on scorecards, incidents, or violations
Conduct periodic ride-alongs and facility safety audits
Maintain drug and alcohol testing program compliance (pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion)
Track and report on safety KPIs to the Trucking Department Manager
Stay current on FMCSA regulatory changes and update company policy accordingly
Support DOT audits and maintain audit-ready documentation at all times

Qualifications

Prior experience in a trucking safety or compliance role
Strong working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, and Hours of Service rules
Experience with ELD/digital logging systems and driver qualification file management
Experience conducting accident investigations and working with insurance/claims processes
Comfortable delivering coaching and corrective feedback directly to drivers
Strong documentation and organizational skills; able to maintain audit-ready records

Compensation

$60,000-$85,000 per year
