Position summary

What this role covers

Coordinate the daily movement of the fleet across local shuttle, regional, and drayage operations. Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers throughout their shift and work closely with the logistics department to plan loads, cover the in-house freight base, and secure headhaul/backhaul loads when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage daily dispatch schedules across shuttle, regional, and drayage drivers
  • Assign loads and routes based on driver availability, Hours of Service, and equipment location
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers throughout the day; resolve delays and issues in real time
  • Coordinate with the logistics department on load planning, appointment times, and scheduling changes
  • Track load status and proactively communicate delays to customers or facilities as needed
  • Monitor driver Hours of Service to avoid violations and plan around available drive time
  • Source and book headhaul/backhaul loads through outside brokers when in-house freight is unavailable
  • Maintain accurate dispatch records, load documentation, and driver communication logs
  • Escalate safety concerns, mechanical issues, or compliance issues to the Safety Coordinator or Trucking Department Manager
  • Support onboarding of new drivers by walking them through dispatch procedures and expectations

Qualifications

  • Prior dispatch experience in trucking, logistics, or a related field preferred
  • Working knowledge of Hours of Service regulations and route/trip planning
  • Comfortable managing multiple drivers and priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills; able to work directly with drivers, customers, and the logistics team
  • Experience with dispatch, ELD, or transportation management software preferred
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to problem-solve under time pressure

  • $25-$30 per hour · OT eligible
